Servants and Leaders Together (S.A.L.T.) is an organization of students that was established in the spring of 2009 with members of the 7th grade class. These students expressed interest in serving younger students at the Academy and people in the community. Members of the organization went through a two day training session administered by PAX Peer Meditation professionals. Funding for the training was provided through the Safe Schools, Healthy Schools grant. The initial training enabled students to be instrumental in helping other students with conflict resolution. The SALT team attended a refresher seminar in the Fall of 2009 to reinforce the conflict resolution strategies learned in the spring.
The students have had many opportunities to serve the school community through offering peer mediation services, assisting with special elementary events, and serving children at community events such as the Fall Harvest Festival at the Texas Baptist Childrens Home. Students in the charter organization will continue through their senior year as they develop skills for serving their school and local community.
