Congratulations go to both the Beginning & Intermediate Band and the Advanced Band of the McCarty Academy of Music, who scored straight first division ratings from the judging panel at Sound Waves Music Festival in New Braunfels on Saturday May 5.  At the end of the day, both bands also were awarded Best In Class awards.  Congratulations to our RRCA students who participated in this event.

 

 

 

One Act Play Results

The RRCA High School and Junior High Theatre teams had a fabulous weekend April 13-14, 2012 at the One Act Play competition in Mineral Wells! The kids were amazing...both on and off the stage, and we give God the praise for their outstanding performance.

Congratulations to Senior Kyra Detrick for receiving a regional award from The Alliance for Young Artists and  Writers in New York  City.  Three of her art pieces were recognized.  One received the Gold Key and two received honorable mention

State Debate Tournament March 24, 2012

 

On March 24th, RRCA competed against teams around the state at the Public Forum State Debate tournament in Temple. The team of JH Engelbrecht and Josh Jacks had a 6-1 record overall, losing in the final round to rival Holy Trinity in a 2-1 decision. The other Crusader team of James Eldred and Rachel Snyder broke to the elimination rounds and were named quarterfinalists, with a 3-2 record. "The kids exceeded my expectations today. They proved that RRCA continues to have one of the strongest private school debate teams in the state," said coach Cathleen Ferose. This was a school record for Engelbrecht/Jacks as the highest finish in state competition for Public Forum.

 

TPSMEA Choir Competition

The HIgh Call choir travelled to Houston, Texas on March 23-24, 2012 to compete in the annual TPSMEA State Choir competition.  The choir received the highest rating of a 1 for both their concert pieces and their sightreading.  These seven students advanced from an earlier qualifying competition to compete with their solos in this competition:  Chad Brooker, Amanda Olmstead, Jenna Grosser, Trent Sutton, Jeffrey Leistico, Tara Marshall and Anne-Marie Berg.

 

 

TAPPS State Art Competition

 

The TAPPS state art competition hosted 1800 pieces of art work in 20 different categories from schools over the entire state of Texas on March 24, 2012.  Congratulations to the following amazing art students who placed at the TAPPS State art competition:

 

Victoria Redding placed 5th in Drawing Black and White for “Eye of the Beholder”

Karina Torres-Diaz placed 3rd in Drawing Color for “Pug in a Box”

Ellen Smith received an Honorable Mention for Seek and Sketch

Karina Torres-Diaz placed 5th in Seek and Sketch

Kyra Detrick placed 3rd in Graphic Design for Brain Storm

Ellen Smith received an Honorable Mention in Creative and Experimental Photography for “Quandry”

Meaghyn Barker placed 1st in On Site Design

Seven High Call Choir students received Superior ratings on their solos at theTPSMEA solo/ensemble competition.  These seven students will now advance to the state competition:  Chad Brooker, Amanda Olmstead, Jenna Grosser, Trent Sutton, Jeffrey Leistico, Tara Marshall and Anne-Marie Berg. An ensemble composed of Marissa Flournoy, Trent Sutton, Jenna Grosser and Anne-Marie Berg received an Excellent rating, as did soloist Laura Pascual.

CONGRATULATIONS to Kyra Detrick for winning a Gold Key for her photography “Blue Shoes” at the prestigious 2012 Scholastic Art and Writing Awards from the South Art Region.  Kyra also received two honorable mentions for her photography “Down the Path” and “Hello World”.  Kyra’s Gold Key submission will travel on to New York City for a national level competition and exhibition there.
