Press Release:  RRCA Student Earns NFL's Highest Rank (Feb. 20, 2012)

Trent Sutton, under the guidance of coach Cathleen Ferose, has earned the degree of Premier Distinction--the National Forensic League's highest degree of student membership.  A degree of Premier Distinction reflects sustained excellence in classroom activities, competition rounds, and service projects.  Students may earn points in six separate categories:  speech, debate, congress, service, district, and national.  A total of 96 high school students earned the degree of Premier Distinction between January 15, 2012, and February 15, 2012, placing them among the top half of one percent of NFL student members.

The National Forensic League (NFL) is a non-profit honorary society whose mission is to promote high school and middle school speech and debate activities as a means to develop a student's essential life skills and values.  More than 120,000 high school and middle school students, representing nearly 3,000 schools nationwide, are currently building their communication, leadership, cognitive, and presentational skills as members.  Since 1925, more than 1.3 million students have found their voice in the NFL.  For more information, visit www.NFLonline.org.

2012 National Merit Scholar Commended Students at RRCA

Becky Blauser, Interim Head of School at Round Rock Christian Academy, announced on September 26, 2011 that four students have been named Commended Students in the 2012 National Merit Scholarship Program.  RRCA seniors James Eldred, Jenna Grosser, Ethan Shires, and Trent Sutton were all recognized as Commended Students, and a Letter of Commendation from the school and the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) will be presented by Mrs. Blauser to these scholastically talented seniors.

Commended students placed among the top five percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2012 competition by taking the 2010 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).  Commended students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success and represent a valuable national resource.  The students and their schools are vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation.  We hope that this recognition will help broaden their educational opportunities and encourage these students as they continue their pursuit of academic success.

2011 RRCA Graduation

On Friday, May 21, 2011, RRCA celebrated with 34 students as they walked across the stage to commemorate their graduation from the Academy.  The students, who will be attending numerous universities including Texas A&M, The University of Texas, Texas Christian University, Baylor, and Stephen F. Austin, collectively received over one million dollars in scholarships.

The commencement address was given by Derek Kietzke, a RRCA graduate who recently earned his Masters from Stephen F. Austin State University.   Katherine Davis, Valedictorian, and Rachel Weeks, Salutatorian, gave heartfelt and entertaining speeches to the audience of over 400 family and friends.   Pastor Mark Westerfield concluded the graduation ceremony with a time of blessing over the students by the parents.  Congratulations to all of our seniors and best wishes for a bright future ahead in college.

Our Former Administrator:

Susan Owen was a faithful servant for 25 years at RRCA. We were deeply saddened when Mrs. Owen passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, February 5, 2011. The Academy was one of her biggest passions, after her Savior, and her family that she cared for so much.  Several recent articles have been published detailing the tremendous impact she had on so many people:

Private School Rankings:

In the January 21-27, 2011 edition of the Austin Business Journal, Round Rock Christian Academy is ranked 6th among 25 area private schools.  There are only two other schools in the top ten with a lower tuition than RRCA, which affirms one of our priorities to be a school of excellence yet keep tuition affordable for families who desire excellence in Christian education.

The top ten schools all had over 400 students enrolled, and the tuition prices ranged from $5,000 to $12,000 for full-time students and included a few boarding schools with tuition/boarding of up to $21,000.

July 12, 2011

Student Mallory Blauser, upcoming Junior at RRCA, was named to the Austin American-Statesman's Top 50 Central Texas Athletes.  Mallory earned TAPPS All-State honors in basketball and volleyball and won a bronze medal in the TAPPS 3A state track meet.  See the article here.

Round Rock Student Wins Appointment to U.S. House Page Program

(WASHINGTON, DC) - Congressman John Carter (TX-31) today announced the appointment of Elizabeth Anne Birkman, 17, of Round Rock to the U.S. House of Representatives Page Program.  Carter nominated Birkman to the highly-competitive program, where she won approval through a bipartisan leadership selection process.

“I was honored to sponsor Ms. Birkman, and delighted that she won this appointment to serve the U.S. House through the Page Program,” says Carter.  “Based on her accomplishments and character, I know she will do an outstanding job in helping the House do its duty, and will be a credit to our district in the Nation’s Capitol.”

Birkman is a rising senior year at Round Rock Christian Academy, where she is a member of the Varsity Cheer Squad, Speech and Debate team, Spanish Club, and Choir.  She is also active in St. Phillips United Methodist Church, where she is a member of the Youth Group and has participated in multiple mission trips.  She has been recognized as a State Qualifier in Speech and Debate for three years, a National Qualifier to the National Forensic League Tournament in 2011 in Original Oratory, and achieved the highest academic average in Speech and English for 2010-2011.  She is the daughter of Rick and Lisa Birkman of Round Rock, where Mr. Birkman is the owner of a roofing contracting firm and Mrs. Birkman serves as a Williamson County Commissioner.

Pages have been serving the House of Representatives since 1827.   Working as a team, Pages assist Members with their legislative duties, deliver correspondence and small packages within the congressional complex, answer phones in the Member cloakrooms, and prepare the House Floor for sessions.  The program is open to high school juniors with a GPA of 3.0 or higher in core academic subjects and in good academic and disciplinary standing.  Applicants must initially apply with their U.S. House or Senate Member.
